Native bismuth forming distinctive iridescent hopper crystals. Has the lowest thermal conductivity of any metal except mercury. Color: Silver-white with pinkish tinge, iridescent oxide. Luster: Metallic. Streak: Silver-white. Cleavage: Perfect basal. Hardness: 2-2.5. Transparency: Opaque. Crystal system: Hexagonal Trigonal. Chemical formula: Bi. Specific gravity: 9.7-9.8. Formation: Forms in hydrothermal veins and granitic pegmatites, often associated with tin and tungsten ores. Common geological settings: Australia, Bolivia, Germany, China; found in pegmatites and hydrothermal veins. Common look-alikes and related entries: Silver, Antimony, Galena.
