Mineral Wealth of the Shield The Canadian Shield is one of the most mineral-rich regions on Earth . Its ancient rocks — spanning over 4 billion years of geological history — host world-class deposits of gold, nickel, copper, diamonds, uranium, and many other commodities. Why Is the Shield So Mineral-Rich? Several factors combine to make the Shield exceptionally mineralised: 1. Age : Billions of years of geological processes concentrated metals 2. Volcanic activity : Ancient volcanic arcs deposited metal-rich rocks 3. Metamorphism : Heat and pressure remobilised and concentrated metals 4. Greenstone belts : These Archean volcanic-sedimentary sequences are classic gold-hosting environments 5.
