Sample Collection Methods
Different sample collection methods are suited to different geological settings and objectives. Channel Sampling A continuous channel is cut perpendicular to the structure being sampled. The width should be uniform typically 10-15cm and collected into sample bags at regular intervals. Chip Sampling Chips are collected at regular intervals e.g., every 1m along a traverse. Less representative than channel samples but faster. Core Sampling Half Core Protocol 1. Mark sample intervals on core 2. Use core saw to cut lengthwise 3. Always sample the same side 4. Return remaining half to core box Quarter Core Used when duplicate samples are needed or for metallurgical testing.
